Eric Knysz waived right to hearing

Eric Knysz waived his right to a hearing where prosecutors would be required to reveal some evidence.

A man charged with murder in the fatal shooting of a Michigan State Police trooper has waived a key hearing, a decision that sends his case directly to a trial court in northern Michigan.

Magistrate Patricia Baker says that Eric Knysz waived his right to a hearing where prosecutors would be required to reveal some evidence. He's charged with murder of a peace officer and other crimes in Mason County.

Trooper Paul Butterfield was shot in the head during a traffic stop last month in Mason County's Sherman Township, about 80 miles north of Grand Rapids.

Knysz' wife, Sarah Knysz, also waived her right to a hearing on different felony charges.
