Family of 14 loses everything in house fire

Update: 7&4 News has reached out to the Evans family, who lost everything in an early morning fire on Friday, and now you have the chance to offer some assistance.

We have learned that what was first reported as 14 people inside the house, it was really a family of 13. We're told Kurk an Jody Evans are the owners of the house and 11 of their immediate and extended family members were living with them. 10 family pets, including nearly 6 dogs and a few birds did not survive the blaze.

The displaced victims are staying with a family member in the area.

The family tell us that they are all set in terms of toiletries, however they are in need of money to buy clothes and food.

If you're interested in making a donation, the family has set up a P.O. Box: P.O. Box 280, Manistee 49660

The family is also looking for a new home for it's horse. Because they fire destroyed everything, they can no longer care for it. If you're interested in purchasing the horse, you can call Craig Davis at: (231) 342-5219.

A Benzie County family of 14 is starting over after losing everything in a fire. The house on South Weldon Street in Beulah was destroyed early Friday morning.

One of the 14 family members living at the house arrived home from work early in the morning and discovered a fire in the attached garage. He woke up everyone in the house and they all got out unharmed. Now friends and family are helping their loved ones pick up the pieces.

"They were pretty devastated, but they're just trying to stay positive and be hopeful that people will help and that everything will be as it was before. They're just glad to be alive," Said Jessica Gramza, a relative of the victims.

Tonight the displaced victims are staying with family members or at hotels. While the fire started in the garage, the exact source is still unknown.

The family says they need any donations they can get to help get back on their feet. Things like toothpaste, toothbrushes, food, clothes, shampoo, body wash and other toiletries. If you would like to help contact Jessica at
