Fire destroys Ludington home while owner is gone for holiday

MASON COUNTY, Mich., (WPBN/WGTU) -- According to the Mason County Press, a house is destroyed after a fire rips through it early Thanksgiving morning.

Ludington Fire Chief Jerry Funk says the home on East Loomis Street was fully engulfed in flames when he arrived on scene shortly after 4:30 a.m. Thursday.

Investigators say the homeowner was out of town for the holiday and had taken her dog with her.

According to the Ludington police chief, the homeowner's cat was inside the house at the time of the fire. As of 8:30 a.m. the cat has not been found.

The Mason County Press says a firefighter fell into the basement of the home. The firefighter was checked out at the scene and should be okay.

The fire caused some damage to the garage and a neighboring house.

Crews are still trying to figure out the cause of the fire.
