Former small town mayor steals money from nonprofit
ESCANABA, Mich. - The former mayor of a small Michigan town has admitted to embezzling tens of thousands of dollars from a local service club.
The Daily Press reports Leo Evans of Escanaba pleaded guilty Monday to a felony embezzlement charge. He also agreed to pay restitution.
Evans pleaded guilty to embezzling $50,000 to $100,000 from the Escanaba Eagles Club. He stole the money from the nonprofit organization while he served as its secretary.
