Former track coach accused of soliciting sex from students formally charged
The case against the former middle school track coach in Manistee County is moving forward.
Tyler Groenwald was arraigned in Manistee District Court Wednesday morning. He was charged with accosting children for immoral purposes, using a computer to commit a crime and distributing sexually abusive material.
Groenwald is accused of using his position to solicit sex from students.
He has been released on bond.
The Attorney General's Office is handling the case against Groenwald. The investigation started in 2013 after a former student told authorities Groenwald had attempted to solicit sex from him and requested nude photos via text message.
The investigation revealed several other students from three different Manistee County-area schools had been "sexted" by Groenwald over the course of a year.
