If you have a love or interest in weather, this weekend is for you as the National Weather Service Forecast Office in Gaylord will be hosting an Open House Saturday with the public invited.
The National Weather Service Office in Gaylord is the federal agency responsible for issuing forecasts and watches/warnings for a majority of Northern Michigan. They have a state of the art facility and are opening it up to the public Saturday.
They will be giving tours of the facility along with weather balloon demonstrations. They will also demonstrate how their weather forecasts and warnings are made and issued. You can also learn about the various weather equipment that the NWS utilizes. Children are certainly invited and it is encouraged.
The event is free and open to the public and will take place from 9:00 a.m. until noon Saturday. The National Weather Service Office is located off of Mancelona Road or highway C-38 that runs between Mancelona and Otsego Lake at 8800 Passenheim Road. Just look for the large radar dome.

As for the weekend, the weather looks fantastic both Saturday and Sunday. Highs Saturday will climb close to 80F with temperatures Sunday climbing into the 80's. There may be a few widely scattered thunderstorms Sunday, most likely across the Eastern U.P./Straits region.
