Funeral home owner sentenced to one year for embezzling charge
The owner of a funeral home in Standish has been sentenced to one year behind bars for embezzling from his customers.
The Arenac County Circuit Court says 68-year-old Richard Weishuhn will spend one year in jail on one felony count of embezzlement of more than $100,000. He was also sentenced to five years of probation. The second embezzlement count of more than $50,000 and less than $100,000 will be dismissed because itâ??s encompassed by the first count.
The Attorney General says the owner of R.O. Savage Funeral Chapel didn't report pre-paid funeral contracts from 2006 through 2012, and instead spent the money.
An investigation by the Attorney Generalâ??s office found that Weishuhn spent $112,000 in earmarked prepaid funeral funds for personal and business use in 2012 and $87,000 in 2011.
