Four charged in largest ever embezzlement case in Chippewa County

Four people are accused of stealing more than half a million dollars from the northern Michigan hotel.





CHIPPEWA COUNTY, Mich., (WPBN/WGTU) -- Four people were charged in a half a million dollar embezzlement case in Chippewa County.

The Sault Ste. Marie Police Department announced January 11 that three people had been arrested for embezzlement from the Ramada Ojibway Inn.

Joanie Grove, 58, was charged with conducting a criminal enterprise, felony embezzlement more than $100,000, using a computer to commit a crime, tampering with evidence and lying to a peace officer.

John Grove, 60, was charged with conducting a criminal enterprise.

Victoria Garber, 51, was charged with felony conducting a criminal enterprise and using a computer to commit a crime.

Nicole Grove was charged with felony conducting a criminal enterprise, felony embezzlement more than $100,000 and using a computer to commit a crime.

Officers said the suspects allegedly overcharged hotel guests and kept the difference.

The Ramada is now under new management and issuing refunds to those they believe were overcharged.
