Governor and farmers discuss agriculture concerns
Gov. Rick Snyder will discuss ways to boost the agriculture industry during the annual meeting of the Michigan Farm Bureau.
Snyder and Farm Bureau President Wayne Wood will host a "town hall" session Tuesday at the DeVos Place Convention Center in Grand Rapids.
Among the topics they'll deal with include labor and immigration; infrastructure such as broadband and road maintenance; and vocational education.
Immigration is of particular interest to Michigan farmers, many of whom struggled to find enough workers to harvest crops this year.
Farm groups across the nation are urging Congress to approve more lenient and less complex rules for hiring immigrant laborers.
