GRAND TRAVERSE COUNTY, Mich. (WPBN/WGTU)-- The Grand Traverse County Sheriff's Office is asking you to beware of shares on social media following a spread of wrong information.

The issue revolves around social media posts about a "possible abduction" in the Fife Lake area and a suspicious van.

A deputy responded to the scene of a concern and was told a van stopped alongside the road for a few minutes with what looked like a rope draped across his shoulders.

Deputies say the driver reportedly got out of the van, went to the passenger side door and then returned to the driver seat and drove away.

Shares of the post on Facebook are reporting the man was wearing a black mask. Deputies say that information was never reported.

Deputies say the man never approached children in the area.

Deputies say the driver did not do anything criminal.

Deputies say ordinary safety precautions should be taken at all times with children.
