The Harlem Globetrotters ran onto the ferry excited to perform for a boat full of fans and one of the players was even more excited to finally perform in his home state. Scooter Christiansen grew up in Detroit and always dreamed of playing as a Globetrotter in Michigan.
"It feels good to be back in the home state. You know we travel a lot all around the world, we've been to 121 different countries, and I've been to 44 myself. To be back in Michigan, this is my frist time to the island, I've heard about it and I wanted to find out what it was all about and I am here with the Globetrotters finally," Christiansen said.
It isn't only Scooter's first time out on the island, but this is the first time the team has made the trip as well. On a special court set up on the barge freight ferry they taught fans how to do their signiture tricks. Challenging them to steal the ball from a pro and providing their signiture charm.
"It's just being up close and personal and they actually talk to you and sign your autographs and make you feel like you're a part of them," Globetrotters fan Sharon Shoettle said.
And this entire week people can enjoy the experience in Northern Michigan. This trip out to the island kicks off what will be a week full of performances in local communities.
"We got high flying dunks, we got comedy, we got guys dribbling on floors, spinning the balls on their heads and all kinds of stuff. So its not going to be your average basketball game, that's one thing I can tell you for sure," Globetrotter Bull Bullard said.
