A home on Little Twin Lake was destroyed in an explosion Thursday morning.

Crews were called to the scene before around 10:30 a.m.. Fire crews said the explosion could be heard throughout the area.

The Kalkaska Township Fire Department says the home was unoccupied and no one was injured in the explosion.

While the fire chief said they are still investigating, the cause was most likely a gas leak.

The explosion destroyed the home, significantly damaged a house about 15 feet away and blew out the windows of another home 100 yards away.

Crews say the debris is widespread.

Authorities say the home was purchased by people who live downstate last fall. Crews have not been able to get a hold of the homeowners yet.

Details are limited at this time. We have a crew on the scene and will update the story as more details emerge.
