Homes evacuated after early morning fire

Several homes were evacuated while crews battled a garage fire in a mobile home community in Grand Traverse County.

The Grand Traverse Metro Fire Department was called to the fully engulfed garage fire on Gladewood Lane and Barlow around 2:30 a.m. Friday. The fire spread to the nearby mobile home, which was being used for storage. Chief Pat Parker says that no one was currently living in the home. No one was hurt. Parker says that both the home and garage are a total loss.

The fire also caused siding damage to a neighbors mobile home.

Crews were able to put out the fire and residents were allowed back in their homes about two hours after the fire began.

Parker says that the fire started inside the garage, but the cause is still under investigation.
