Troopers from the Michigan State Police Hart Post have arrested a 26-year-old Howard City man in connection with the abuse of a 13-month-old child.
Police were called to Gerber Memorial Hospital in Fremont on Saturday night by Child Protective Services to investigate serious injuries to the child. The child was taken to the hospital by her mother after she noticed injuries that occurred while the baby girl was left under the care of the mother's live-in boyfriend.
Medical evaluation showed that the child suffered three broken ribs and significant bruising, which doctors identified as being the result of abuse.
Investigation by MSP identified the mother's live-in boyfriend as a suspect, leading to his arrest.
The suspect was charged with one count of first degree child abuse, a felony punishable by up to life in prison.
The Howard City man was lodged in the Montcalm County Jail, awaiting his arraignment.
