Human trafficking awareness event hosted in TC
GRAND TRAVERSE COUNTY, Mich., (WPBN/WGTU) -- A program that teaches awareness about human trafficking is coming to Traverse City.
136 cases of human trafficking have been reported in Michigan this year, according to the Grand Traverse County Health Department. One-third of the cases involved children.
Warning Lights is a program that teaches ways to recognize and prevent human trafficking, especially to children.
The program is hosted by the health department and the Zonta Group.
The health department said human trafficking is the fastest growing form of organized crime and needs to be to talked about in order to be prevented.
The free event is from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 23 at Faith Reformed Church in Traverse City.
