Indian River man dies in crash after leading police on car chase
A 29-year-old Indian River man was killed in a crash after leading police on a chase in Cheboygan County.
According to the Tuscarora Township Police Department, the chase happened shortly after 1:30 Thursday morning. It started on Club Road and traveled south towards White Road.
At the corner of Club Road and White Road, the officer turned south on White Road and crashed into a tree, disabling the car.
Police said officers were injured and were taken to McLaren Northern Michigan Hospital. They were treated for their injuries and released.
The suspect vehicle was later found on White Road by deputies from the Cheboygan County Sheriff's Department. It had crashed into a tree about three-quarters of a mile from the intersection of Club and White Roads.
The 29-year-old driver of the car was declared dead at the scene.
The investigation is being handled by the Cheboygan County Sheriff's Department and the Multi-county Accident Reconstruction Unit.
