Indian River woman charged with embezzling from local Lion's Club
A 42-year-old Indian River woman was arrested for allegedly embezzling money from the Indian River Lion's Club.
The investigation started after board members reported missing funds. After reviewing the club's finances, investigators alleged Michelle Lucile Williams, the treasurer for the club at the time, wrote several checks to local businesses for personal items.
The checks totaled more than $1,800.
Williams was charged with embezzlement from a non-profit organization. That charge is a 10-year felony.
Bond was set at $2,500. She is scheduled to be in court again on May 19.
