A two week old infant has died on Monday morning after being found unresponsive in a portable crib in Cheboygan County.
According to the Cheboygan County Sheriff's office, authorities were called to the home on Twin Lake at 6:36 a.m. The parents were visiting the area from Flint when the mother went to check on the baby. The baby was unresponsive.
The parents did not have any cell phone reception and drove to the intersection of Twin Lakes Road and Black River Road with the baby.
The parents were finally able to connect with 911. Responders gave directions to the parents to perform CPR.
Cheboygan Life Support Systems also responded to the scene. Life saving efforts were not able to help the infant and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
"It looks like at this time the baby had died sometime during the early morning hours," says Sheriff Dale Clarmont. "This is a very tragic and sad, at this time we are in the middle of the investigation to try and determine exactly how the infant died."
An autopsy of the child is scheduled for Tuesday in Saginaw.
