International cyber attacks target local credit card holders

Mount Pleasant Police say several city businesses have been experiencing fraudulent activity involving credit/debit card use.
The businesses have fallen victim to computer viruses that have captured credit/debit card information, which police say is then fraudulently used throughout the world.
Several area banks also have recognized a large increase of fraudulent use or compromised credit/debit card transactions.
Police say it appears the activity is not tied to any local suspect, only that some of the area businesses have become victim to international cyber-attacks.
Authorities are warning that everyone should keep an eye on their statements and credit card for any unusual activity and that not all fraudulent purchases are for high dollar amounts.
Low dollar amounts can sometimes be a test for bigger purchases later.
