      Investigation underway after cannon fell 700 feet from helicopter

      A 155mm howitzer cannon belonging to the Michigan Army National Guard fell from a Chinook helicopter flying at 700 feet Saturday.

      A 155mm howitzer cannon belonging to the Michigan Army National Guard fell from a Chinook helicopter flying at 700 feet Saturday.

      It happened during a training session at Camp Grayling. No one was injured in the incident.

      The howitzer, officially known as an M777 belongs to Alpha Battery, 1st battalion, 119th Field Artillery Regiment from Port Huron, Michigan. The helicopter used to transport the cannon is stationed at Grand Ledge Army Airfield.

      The Michigan National Guard and the Army Safety Center from Fort Rucker, Alabama are investigating the cause of the incident.
