The Grand Traverse County Sheriff's Office is trying to figure out the identity of a body found Tuesday.
Two horseback riders discovered what looked like a body while riding in a field near Farm Lane, in what police are calling "section 31" of East Bay Township. The man, described by authorities as a white male, between the ages of 25 and 35-years-old was found face down, and with an article of clothing covering his face.
Emergency responders confirmed the subject was deceased and began an investigation into the identity of the subject and cause of death.
"Once we're able to identify the body, which I'm confident we will be able to do in the near future, then we'll be able to contact people who knew this individual, who knew what his habits were, what he may have been involved in, who he hangs around," said Capt. Randy Fewless of the Grand Traverse County Sheriff's Department. "We'll be able to conduct a very extensive investigation to find out what occurred, how it occurred, why it occurred, those types of things."
The subject is described as being 5'11" in height and weighs 164 pounds. He has short dark hair with brown/hazel eyes and is clean shaven.
He was also described as wearing black shoes, dark pants and a dark colored sweatshirt. He had a black backpack as well.
The body was taken to Grand Rapids for an autopsy, which showed no signs of trauma. Officials are still waiting for toxicology results to determine the cause of death.
The man's finger prints are being examined down state, and authorities hope to have him identified sometime this evening.
Anyone who has information about the possible identity of the person or is aware of a friend or family member who has not been seen for the past two to three days, please contact the Sheriff??s Office at 231-995-5002.
