      John Ernst sentenced to prison for aiding in Kopenkoskey's death

      John Ernst is sentenced to 2-15 years in prison for perjury charges in Emmet County.

      John Ernst is sentenced to 2-15 years in prison for perjury charges in Emmet County.

      The judge, Tuesday afternooon, exceeded the sentencing recommendation of one year in jail.

      Ernst, 59, took a plea deal in late March, pleading guilty to perjury charges. He's accused of helping Carol Kopenkoskey, who pleaded guilty to second-degree murder of her husband in 2012.

      He helped her cover up the crime by disposing the gun and lying about it at the hearing.

      Kopenkoskey was sentenced to 18-35 years in prison in Oct. 2012.
