Kalkaska County deputy facing new charge for accused sexual relations with inmate
The Kalkaska County Sheriff's deputy, who was arrested in June for having sexual relations with a former female inmate, has been placed on unpaid leave pending the outcome of his cases.
Aaron Popa is facing a new charge of second degree criminal sexual conduct in Kalkaska County.
According to Sheriff Dave Israel, this new charge involves the same inmate in Popa's Otsego County case. This sexual encounter is believed to have happened in the jail library area in 2006.
Popa was arraigned on Aug. 8 on this new charge. Popa is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on Sept. 15.
