Kalkaska man helps families in need with 'Trees for Hope'
KALKASKA COUNTY, Mich., (WPBN/WGTU) -- For some families, the holidays can be financially difficult.
On Sunday, one Kalkaska man did his part to help struggling families in his community with 'Trees for Hope.'
Cameron Porteous started giving away Christmas trees with decorations and ornaments earlier this week. On Sunday, he came into work with his family to give away the last of the trees and decorations.
Porteous says all of the trees and decorations were donated by other people in the community.
So far he has given away a more than a dozen trees to people who cannot afford one.
“You could have as many presents under the tree as you want, but if you don't have a Christmas tree to put them under it just doesn't feel like Christmas,” said Porteous. “It doesn't give you that joy, making memories of setting it up with your family. So if you can't afford one, I want you to come and get one of these nice trees. So that you can have a nice tree for your family for Christmas.”
Porteous says he still has some trees left over.
If anyone is interested they can stop by his business That Detail Shop in Kalkaska or Porteous has offered to drop off trees to people who cannot find transportation.
