The Grand Traverse County Road Commission will receive $1.1 million for improvements to LaFranier Road in Traverse City after submitting its project certification form on Monday.
"This is a great start towards improving LaFranier Road," says County Highway Engineer James Johnson.
According to Johnson, the project could consist of a center turn lane from Ridge View Ct. to the health department entrance, a pedestrian path from S. Airport Rd. to southerly Ridge View Ct., as well as turnouts for BATA bus drivers to pull over to let riders board the bus.
"When the scope of the project is fully funded, all modes of transportation could benefit," says Johnson.
LaFranier Rd. project is expected to begin in 2014 and work will carry into 2015.
