Lightning strike believed to be the cause of early morning fire
Fire investigators believe lightning may have sparked a fire that destroyed a historic barn in Grand Traverse County.
The Grand Traverse Metro Fire Department responded to a the fire at 4675 N. Long Lake Road in Garfield Township at 3:30am Monday.
When crews arrived they found the 100 x 60 foot historic wood barn fully involved. Firefighters from three Metro stations fought the blaze and hit hot spots for nearly three hours under extreme weather conditions.
Metro fire investigators are on scene to determine a cause and origin. It is likely that the barn was hit by lightning.
