Lightning strike impacts Northern Michigan airport
A lightning strike on Monday night impacted the majority of the lights on the taxiway and runway of Alpena County Regional Airport, leaving it closed at night.
The total number of lights not working on the taxiway is 113.
At this point, there is not a total count of out lights on the runway.
Crews were in the process of repairing the lights when they ran out of the extra lights. Another shipment of lights are expected to arrive on Friday.
The airport usually does not have night flights unless it is a medical or military issue.
Daytime flights are not impacted by the outage.
The issue is expected to be fixed by the weekend.
