Local leaders urge â??Yesâ?? vote on Proposal One
Monday afternoon supporters of Michigan Citizens for Strong and Safe Communities, came together to remind voters of why they believe locals should vote â??yesâ?? on Proposal 1.
Four local leaders were on the panel to talk about Proposal 1 with local businesses at the Traverse City Area Chamber of Commerce.
This proposal will be the only state wide ballot on the Aug. 5th primary.
If passed, it will reduce personal property taxes for small businesses and manufacturers.
The panel provided a local idea of why voting â??yesâ?? is so important.
"They can put more into their businesses in terms of hiring, in terms of research and developments, in terms of you know transportation or shipping costs if they need to ship things nationally or overseas. For some businesses especially small businesses this might just simply mean the difference between staying afloat this year,â?? says Director of Government Relations Kent Wood.
Since the start of 2014 small businesses have not been paying a Personal Property Tax.
If the proposal does not get approved by Aug. 5th, all businesses will start paying those taxes again.
