Local skaters hoping to garner some Olympic attention

Figure skating fans to turn from the TV to the local ice rink for a big event in person this Saturday.

Most fans say their favorite part of the Winter Olympic games are the skating events.

Synchronized skating is not an Olympic sport as of yet but the Traverse City Figure Skating Club is hosting a special event at Centre ICE Arena this Saturday to get the public out to support local skating. The Tri-States Synchronized Skating Competition will include all ages of skaters from elementary school to college. Close to 1,000 people are expected to visit for the big event that runs from 9am-5pm Saturday. Tickets for adults are $10 and $5 for kids.

Coaches Heidi Masse and Stephanie Miller share more in this week's Jimmy Johns Sports Corner.
