Mackinac Bridge back open after complete shut down
The Mackinac Bridge is back open after a semi tractor trailer tipped over while crossing the bridge late Thursday evening causing the bridge to be closed for hours.
The truck was headed northbound across the bridge when a large gust of wind blew it on to it's side. It came to rest against the guardrail and the wires that support the bridge deck.
According to Michigan State Police, the driver, a 49-year-old Hastings man was trapped in the truck and had to be extricated by officers on the scene. He was not injured.
The crash did lead to delays for drivers, and at around 10 pm, the bridge was completely shut down while tow trucks were brought in to clear the scene. The bridge remained closed for about 3 hours.
