Man accused of breaking into Boyne City businesses sentenced to at least 18 months
The man who pleaded guilty to breaking into several buildings in Boyne Falls will spend at least 18 months in prison.
Kenneth Orval Wingo Jr., 19, was sentenced to 18 to 120 months in prison for breaking and entering, 18 to 48 months for larceny in a building, 18 to 48 months of possession of a controlled substance and 93 days in jail for receiving and concealing. Those sentences will run at the same time.
Wingo pleaded guilty to the charges in January as a part of a plea deal where two other felonies and a misdemeanor were dismissed.
He admitted to stealing from Betty's Restaurant in Boyne Falls, the Boyne Mountain Ski Patrol room and a car that was being repaired at Erickson's 131 in Boyne Falls.
Deputies followed footprints in the snow from Betty's Restaurant back to Wingo's car, which was parked at his home. After being interviewed, Wingo confessed to the break-in. The stolen items were found inside the car.
