Man accused of sending sexual texts to teen after Facebook relationship

Jeremy Whittaker, 40, was arraigned Tuesday on four charges including; Using a computer to commit a crime, accosting children for immoral purposes, distributing obscene material to a child and habitual offender-second offense.

A Traverse City man is accused of texting sexually explicit photos to a 14-year-old girl after connecting with her on Facebook.

Jeremy Whittaker, 40, was arraigned Tuesday on four charges including; Using a computer to commit a crime, accosting children for immoral purposes, distributing obscene material to a child and habitual offender-second offense.

Grand Traverse County Prosecutor, Bob Cooney, said Whittaker met the teenager on Facebook and soon began sending text messages to her.

Investigators said the texts grew increasingly sexual in nature and Whittaker sent a picture of his exposed genitals to the girl.

"Parents need to be vigilant of what their kids are doing. Parental controls are available but you can't rely on those. Parents need to know what's going on and monitor their children's activity online or on their electronic devices," warned Cooney

Whittaker will be back in court on June 10 for a Preliminary Hearing.
