Lake Michigan had strong winds and water currents on Saturday that lead to a kite-boarder and attempted rescuer both needing assistance.
A man was kite-boarding off of Suel Choix Point when his board became disabled.
The man was unable to swim back to shore due to poor weather and water conditions. A witness on the shore saw that the kite-boarder was in need of help so he paddled out to the man.
The rescuer also fell victim of the strong winds and water currents that he was unable to swim back to shore.
Around 4:30 p.m., Troopers from the Manistique Detachment of the St.Ignace Post responded to the scene. Once arriving, the Troopers corresponded with a man on shore that had a boat.
The Troopers and the boat owner drove out to the distressed men. Other witnesses also boated out to assist the Troopers in rescuing the two men from the water.
