A 61-year-old man is being charged with engaging in sexual activities with a minor over a four-year period beginning in 2007 on trust lands of the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians.
Tommy Alan Cain was arrested on Thursday in Battle Creek. Cain is charged with five counts of sexual abuse by threat, one count of abusive sexual contact by threat as well as six counts of sexual abuse of a minor.
According to U.S. Attorney, Patrick Miles, after Cain's appearance in federal court, he is in the custody of the U.S. Marshal pending his hearing next week. His hearing will decide whether or not Cain should be released on bond or detained until his trial.
The sexual abuse by threat counts hold a maximum sentence of life while the remaining counts carry a maximum sentence of three years and 15 years.
The Sault Ste. Marie Tribal Police, the Marquette Office of the FBI, as well as assistant U.S. Attorney, Hannah N Bobee, continue to investigate this case.
