Man on suicide watch leads police on high speed chase toward Mackinac Bridge
A Missouri man on suicidal watch is arrested after leading the police on a high speed chase in Cheboygan County on Tuesday morning.
The 22-year-old man currently living in Lansing is arrested for fleeing and eluding as well as operating under the influence of drugs.
Authorities received a 'be on the lookout' for a suicidal subject that was heading north bound I-75 at 1:06 a.m.
Officers from the Tuscarora Township Police Department along with the Cheboygan County Sheriff's Department cut off the vehicle just south of the Indian River near the 308 mile marker north bound I-75.
The Michigan State Police and the Sheriff's Department placed stop sticks in two locations south of Mackinaw City to slow the vehicle down. The driver purposely hit the barrier on I-75 bringing the vehicle to a stop and took then man into custody.
Investigation shows that the man had consumed a large amount of pills and transported to McLaren in Petoskey for treatment and evaluation but was not injured.
According to the Sheriff's office, the driver was trying to get to the Mackinac Bridge. The man was driving a 2013 Ford pickup truck.
The incident remains under investigation.
