Man ruled incompetent in UP woman's death

Timothy Cadeau will undergo up to 15 months of treatment in order to become competent to stand trial in Geraldine Fouts' death.

A 29-year-old man has been found incompetent to stand trial in the home invasion and slaying of an 84-year-old woman in her Upper Peninsula apartment.

The Daily Mining Gazette of Houghton reports Friday that a judge has ordered Timothy Cadeau to undergo up to 15 months of treatment in order to become competent to stand trial in Geraldine Fouts' death.

Cadeau is charged with open murder. Fouts was found dead late last month in her home at Douglass House Apartments in Houghton, northwest of Marquette.

Prosecutor Michael Makinen said Cadeau will be put into the state's mental health system for long-term hospitalization if after 15 months he has not improved enough to stand trial.
