Man sent to hospital after crashing into tree
MASON COUNTY, Mich., (WPBN/WGTU) -- A Ludington man is in the hospital after crashing his pickup truck into a tree.
The Mason County Press reported it happened in the 900 block of North James Street Tuesday morning.
Investigators said the 24-year-old man drove away from a Ludington Police Officer who was responding to a domestic assault call at a home on North James Street.
According to Ludington Police Captain Mike Harrie, the man was initially at the residence and then left the scene before intentionally driving into the tree.
Records show hydraulic rescue tools were needed to free the man from the vehicle.
The driver was transported to the hospital and then later flown to a Grand Rapids trauma center.
At this time his condition is unknown.
Harrie said the domestic assault allegedly involved the driver of the vehicle and his 32-year-old girlfriend.
The case has been turned over the Mason County Prosecuting Attorney's office for review.
