Man sentenced to prison for sexually assaulting a woman at bachelor party
A 27-year-old Oakland County man was sentenced Wednesday to 57-180 months in prison for sexually assaulting a woman.
Jesse Louis Royster, of Oxford, was convicted April 14, 2014 on all four counts of third degree criminal sexual conduct, which is sexual penetration of an adult by force or coercion.
The incident occurred on Dec. 1, 2012 at the Boyne Mountain Resort in Charlevoix County. Royster was staying at the resort for a weekend-long bachelor party.
The victim and a male friend were invited back to Royster's condo after being out at the local bar.
The victim testified that when she left a bathroom in the condo, Royster had turned off the lights, locked the door, and attacked her.
"She's a victim," said Assistant Attorney General Angela Povilaitis during the sentencing, "but more importantly, she is a survivor."
Judge Pajtas heard that the victim has moved from the area and is suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, and panic attacks.
