Man uses free wi-fi to download child porn

Alpena police say a man was using free wi-fi to download child pornography

Police in Alpena say a 25-year-old man was using free wi-fi Internet access at an Alpena business to download child pornography.

As part of a joint investigation with the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) task force, officers with the Alpena Police Department searched the business on Wednesday. They determined that the employees weren't aware that any criminal activity was taking place at their business.

Officers also searched the suspect's home and seized a "considerable amount" of computer hardware. They now have technicians from the Michigan State Police Computer Crimes Unit examining the computers.

The ICAC task force is comprised of various agencies including, the Michigan State Police, the U.S. Secret Service, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. The task force was created to help federal, state and local agencies enhance their investigations into suspects who use the Internet or computers to sexually exploit children.
