A suspect who attacked two people with a knife Sunday morning is now dead after leading police on a car chase through two northern Michigan counties.
At around 7:30am Sunday morning State Police say they were called out to a house on Grant Street in Alpena Township on a report that a 47 year old woman and her 22 year old son had been brutally attacked by a 48 year-old man in their home. Authorities say the suspect stabbed the victims multiple times then took off from the scene.
Immediately a wide-spread search started for the dangerous man. At around 8:15am he was spotted by a Montmorency County Sheriff's Deputy driving west on M-32 in Montmorency County. The suspect refused to stop his car and intentionally crashed into a semi tractor trailer. He died in the crash.
Authorities say this suspect had an extensive criminal history. He was also wanted for questioning in a sexual assault case that happened in Oscoda Township on May 18th.
The name of the deceased suspect has not been released.
