Manistee apartment building damaged in early morning fire
A Manistee apartment building was damaged in an early morning fire.
Fire crews were dispatched to the building at 307 5th Avenue around 3:30 Friday morning.
The fire was in a unit on the second floor of the building, fire officials say. Crews worked for about two hours to contain the fire.
Firefighter Jeff Pefley was injured when a large piece of the ceiling fell on his head injuring his neck. He was treated at West Shore Medical Center and has been returned to duty.
Officials have not been able to confirm the cause and origin, however, crews say indications show it was likely an electrical issue.
The building was home to 8 apartments. The unit where the fire started was just finished yesterday. Residents were scheduled to move into these units this coming weekend.
