WARREN, Mich. -A suburban Detroit mayor says a woman has died after being found in a vehicle that was stranded in about 3 feet of water during flooding.
Warren Mayor James Fouts tells WWJ-AM on Tuesday the woman apparently died of cardiac arrest. The update from Fouts came as numerous roads in the Detroit suburb were closed by flooding. Fouts says there are roughly 1,000 vehicles that have been abandoned in the city.
The Associated Press left a message for Fouts, who earlier described the situation as "overwhelming" and "catastrophic."
The death came as some highways and streets were impassable after a storm dumped more than 6 inches of rain on southeastern Michigan. The National Weather Service said 5.2 inches of rain fell Monday in Warren, where Fouts called for state help.
