Michigan's auto expert drives home economic impact in China

Michigan's newly appointed automotive adviser is leading an auto-focused trade trip to China.

Michigan's newly appointed automotive adviser is leading an auto-focused trade trip to China.

Nigel Francis departs Monday with a delegation of state economic development officials and executives from Michigan companies. Gov. Rick Snyder says more than 100 Chinese auto-related companies have established operations in Michigan.

The delegation will spend two days at a global automotive forum and visit cities with clusters of China's auto industry.

Francis says Michigan's strategic priorities for continued success in the auto industry are connected to global outreach, and China is the highest priority and greatest opportunity.

Michigan ranks ninth in the U.S. in Chinese investment and third in number of deals. Francis was appointed Michigan's auto adviser and senior vice president of the Automotive Industry Office in September.
