Midway open exclusively for Special Kids Day

The Midway at National Cherry Festival closed for a period of time Wednesday morning to allow kids with special needs to enjoy the rides.

The National Cherry Festival dedicated an exclusive morning on Wednesday full of activities for kids with special needs and their families, for Special Kids Day.

From 10:30 a.m. until noon the amusement park section of the festival was open only to these families, and although it took a lot of work to put together, organizers say it was more than worth it.

"Personally , it's just the joy of seeing the smiles," said Angie Walker, Director of the Special Kids event. "It can be kind of stressful setting up a big event but when you see the smiles on the faces, everything else is worth it to see the kids happy and worth it to see the parents able to do something with their whole family."

The owners of Arnold Amusements opened the Midway and all of its concessions for the special kids event free of charge.
