Mio man to spend at least 6 years behind bars in 2012 baby death
The Oscoda man who admitted to killing a baby in 2012 has been sentenced to at least six years behind bars.
Corey Boerner, 25, was sentenced to 6-15 years on voluntary manslaughter and second degree child abuse charges.
Boerner was originally charged with open murder and first degree child abuse, but pleaded guilty to the reduced charges as part of an agreement with the Prosecutor's Office.
Michigan State Police said emergency crews were dispatched to a home in Mio on reports of an infant having trouble breathing. The child was taken to the University of Michigan hospital for treatment and died three days later.
Boerner was arrested in June of 2013.
