A Leelanau County woman was arrested for drunk driving while taking her child to school.
According to the Leelanau County Sheriff's Department, the 32-year-old Elmwood Township woman was driving her 4-year-old to school at 9 a.m. on Wednesday when she was stopped on West Bay Shore Drive for defective equipment.
The deputy noticed signs of intoxication and smelled alcohol. The woman denied drinking before driving, however, she did admit that she was drinking until 2 a.m.
The woman failed field sobriety tests and was arrested for operating while intoxicated.
She was allowed to call a family friend at the scene of the stop who took the child to school.
She was given a breathalyzer test at the Leelanau County Jail where she blew a .08.
The woman has been released on a $100 interim bond pending a court appearance.
According to the Leelanau County Sheriff, they are also seeking a child endangerment charge in addition to the OWI charge. That is a separate charge involving driving intoxicated with a passenger who is under the age of 16.
