Mother accused of killing infant son pleads guilty

The Missaukee County woman accused of killing her 14-month-old son pled guilty to 2nd degree murder on Monday.

The Missaukee County woman accused of killing her 14-month-old son pled guilty to 2nd degree murder on Monday.

Brittani Grabon faced charges of felony murder, involuntary manslaughter and 2nd degree child abuse.

Grabon accepted a plea deal Monday that includes testifying against her then-boyfriend Cole Gilde of Osceola County.

He was charged with two counts of 1st degree child abuse. Additional charges are expected for Gilde, according to Missaukee County Prosecutor William Donnelly Jr.

The 14-month-old victim, Payton Disbrow, died on December 18, 2012. He reportedly had bruises on his face, burn marks on his hands, and had lost a significant amount of weight.

The cause of death was ruled as pneumonia, blood poisoning, and a bacteria that spread throughout his body.

Gilde told the prosecutor at an earlier date that Payton was in not in good physical condition before he died.

Detectives say Grabon told them she was afraid to seek medical attention for Payton because she was thought Child Protective Services would get involved.

Gilde is expected back in court for a preliminary exam, but a date for that has not yet been set.

A sentencing hearing for Grabon has not yet been set.
