Mother, boyfriend arrested in baby's death

Sheriffâ??s deputies arrested 3-week-old Ashton Richardson's mother for second degree child abuse Friday.

Two arrests have been made in the death of a 3-week-old baby in Presque Isle County.

The investigation began April 3, 2014 after first responders were called to a home on the Lake May Road in Hawks. The baby, Ashton Richardson from Bismarck Township, was put on life support with head and internal injuries. He died at the hospital two days later.

Sheriffâ??s deputies arrested the infantâ??s mother Kirsten Richardson, 18, Friday for second degree child abuse.

Richardsonâ??s boyfriend at the time of the babyâ??s death, Joshua Tough, 18, of Onaway was arrested on a felony murder charge Thursday.

Both have been arraigned in 89th District Court.

The felony murder charge carries up to a life sentence without parole.

Tough is being held without bond.

Richardson is being held on a $50,000 bond. Second degree child abuse carries a maximum ten year sentence.

Tough and Richardson is scheduled to be in court for a preliminary exam on August 5th.
