Multiple crashes leave two dead in Chippewa County
Two people are dead after two fatal vehicle crashes happened this weekend in Chippewa County.
The first occurred Saturday morning on M-134 near Strickland Point Road on Drummond Island Township. Eric Michael Draper, 24, from Tustin, lost control and struck a tree. He was partially ejected and died at the scene. The Chippewa County Sheriff says alcohol, speed, drugs, and failure to wear a seat belt were all contributing factors to the crash.
The second crash happened early Sunday in Bay Mills Township. A vehicle was located in a wooded area off Birch Point Road, near Chickadee Road after it failed to go around a curve, struck a tree, and ignited after impact.
The only occupant of the vehicle was 41-year-old Quentin R. Wright of Brimley. Both his body and the vehicle were heavily charred and destroyed from the crash and fire. The sheriff says that speed, alcohol and failure to wear a seatbelt were also contributing factors in this case.
It is expected that the investigations of both crashes will take several weeks.
