National Cherry Festival celebrates its Ambassadors

The National Cherry Festival celebrates its Ambassadors with a special bayside BBQ.

If you have been to a National Cherry Festival event, chances are you have seen one of those familiar red shirts worn by the event's Ambassadors. Ambassadors are volunteers who help with everything from parking and security to sand sculpting and pie eating contests.

It is going to be a busy week for the hundreds of Ambassadors, so in order to say thanks in advance for their efforts the festival held it's annual Ambassador Appreciation Celebration, sponsored by The Carter Needham Farm Bureau Insurance Agency. It was a nice of food, music, and an opportunity for the Ambassadors to socialize before they get to work.

Event sponsor Jeff Needham says "tonight we celebrate the Ambassadors to give them an opportunity to meet one another, to celebrate the 87 years of the National Cherry Festival and the 40,000 volunteer hours it takes to put this on. We think it's a good idea honor them before we kick off the week.

The reigning National Cherry Festival Queen and her court made an appearance tonight thanking the volunteers for all they do.
